1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Review
Since its conception in 1990, the Mitsubishi Eclipse has awarded budget constrained
people who loves fast cars and sporty looks something to look forward to. The
redesign in the previous year just brought the Mitsubishi Eclipse to a higher
level for 1997. The RS, GS and GS-T have front-wheel drive, but dissimilar engines.
A twin-cam Chrysler motor powers the RS and GS, while the GS-T gets an effective
turbo version of a Mitsubishi 2.0-liter engine.
The top-of-the-line GSX gets the Mitsubishi power plant, and an all-wheel drive
system that's idyllic for less than welcoming environments. For its 1997 line
up, Mitsubishi improves on this already exceptional car by modernizing the front
and rear styling and adding a new interior color scheme. The tail is neater looking,
and the roof of the Eclipse is painted the same color as the rest of the car.
Dual airbags are standard for this sleek sports car, but antilock brakes are
optional on all models. The interior is a pleasant place to spend time, with an
organically shaped dashboard that has a sweeping contour that slicks in front
of the driver and between the seats, putting all controls within easy reach. The
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse is the perfect choice for the budget-minded individual
that is looking for a thrill in his ride.
