Mitsubishi Eclipse
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Launched in 1989 as a 1990 model, the Mitsubishi eclipse was a part of a three "sister" car merge project by Mitsubishi and Chrysler by Diamond Star Motors (DSM). And true to form, only the Eclipse has spawned legions of followers and still exists today. The first Mitsubishi Eclipse was front wheel drive, three door sporty hatchbacks powered by four cylinder engines. All three initial models by DSM shared similar styling and features. But right from the beginning, the Eclipse was the most sporty and aggressive of the three.

Mitsubishi EclipseThe Eclipse was available in four trim levels. A 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine powered the base Eclipse. A 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine powered the more powerful Eclipse GS DOHC. For those in need of even more power, the Eclipse GS DOHC Turbo sported a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four cylinder engine. And to top it off, the top-of-the-line Eclipse GSX included the turbo charged engine and all wheel drive. Overnight, the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo and GSX were one of the fastest four-cylinder production automobiles in the world. The Mitsubishi Eclipse is perfect for budget-minded sports-car lovers. The DOHC version is much faster in traffic and more responsive to the throttle.

Both the GS Turbo and GSX are quicker, but the front-drive GS Turbo suffers from very noticeable torque steer, which causes us to prefer the GSX, which spreads the abundant power evenly between all four wheels. The all-wheel-drive setup gives the GSX outstanding grip, making it the best-handling sports car in its class. While we appreciate the antilock brakes provided on the GSX, we wish Mitsubishi could provide them as an option on all models. Anyway, Eclipse Mitsubishi Parts are there to make your driving a lot more comfortable and easier.
